Region 01 · Northern Territory
A traveller’s introduction to the country where our featured two-day tours run.

Red earth, wide plains and a very big sky.
The Red Centre is the arid heart of Australia’s Northern Territory, and it’s where the two-day tours we feature operate. Here’s a short guide for travellers: what draws people to the region, where to find trustworthy cultural and park information, and what to keep in mind when you only have a couple of days.
We’re an Australian-based travel business in Alice Springs. We help you discover, compare and book carefully selected tours run by independent Australian tour operators. We’re not a cultural authority, so on the things that matter most here we’ll point you to the people and organisations who are.
01 · The landscape
Uluru rises alone from the surrounding plain, and for most visitors it’s the reason for the trip. Some two-day packages include guided sightseeing at Uluru and nearby attractions.
Kata Tjuta is a group of large, rounded domes across the plain from Uluru. Some packages include a visit here too.
Each operator plans its own itinerary, so it’s worth checking which places a tour actually covers. Our guide to what’s included and what varies explains what to look for.
02 · Respect
This is living cultural country, not just scenery.
Uluru and Kata Tjuta lie within Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, which Anangu Traditional Owners and Parks Australia manage together. Cultural meaning, stories and guidance on how to behave belong to Anangu. They aren’t ours to tell.
Before you go, read the official Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park website for park guidance, cultural information, current notices and visitor requests. Your tour operator can also tell you how its itinerary fits with park rules on the day.
03 · A short visit
Distances are long. The Red Centre is vast, and departure points differ between operators. Read our planning guide to distances and departure points before you choose.
Two days goes quickly. Tours usually include one overnight stay where the itinerary says so. If you’d like to explore slowly, see whether a two-day tour is right for you.
Seasons and schedules vary. Some tours run all year and others only in certain seasons, depending on the operator, the weather and departure schedules.
The sky does what it likes. Desert skies can be beautiful, but no one can guarantee the weather or particular sightseeing conditions. Our booking information explains this in full.
